Congratulations to RCCN member Rachel Ikemeh!
At a recent meeting of the Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund, an application submitted by Rachel Ashegbofe Ikemeh of the SW/Niger Delta Forest Project - Establishing Community-based Conservation for the Surviving Population of the Niger Delta Red Colobus in Proposed Conservation Areas in Central Niger Delta - was awarded a $10,000 grant.
The goal of this project is to establish two community conservation areas where viable populations of the Niger Delta red colobus monkey are known to persist. These proposed areas are located in 1) the Apoi Creek forests (approximately 22 km2) flanked by three indigenous communities – Apoi, Gbaroaun and Kokologbene. The second site, Kolotoro-Ongoloba, is approximately 140 km2 of community land located in the Ekeremor local government area of Bayelsa State.
