Côte d'Ivoire

Côte d'Ivoire is home to 2 taxa of red colobus monkeys: Piliocolobus badius badius classified as Endangered according to the IUCN Red List and Piliocolobus waldroni (possibly extirpated)

Miss Waldron’s Red Colobus, Swiss Centre for Scientific Research, Côte d'Ivoire

This is species has not been seen for 44 years, but through local interviews and arboreal camera-traps, Re:wild and our local partner believe a few small groups maybe surviving deep in the swamp forests of Tanoe. We will continue to search for this species and possibly trial drone with thermal detection equipment to scan the canopy, or eDNA in a final push to find the species.
